I remember going to the "Sock Hops" at lunchtime in the gym. I remember listening to the "Flaming Flamingos" outside. I remember the snow sculptures during the carnival. I remember when the murals in the different houses were first painted. I remember getting lost in Ottawa during a class trip and staying in Youth Hostels in a jail, a university (where there was only cold water by the time I got to the shower...I remember paying .60 cents to buy a yogurt in the vending machines "red raspberry", my favorite, now that was a treat...I remember singing "Alto" in the choir (John Denver songs) I could go on and on. I may not have appreciated Galt then as much as I should have had but it was a ride nevertherless.
Carnival Week was the best!! There was such a spirit of competitiveness and team-work in the 70's..although I didn't play on many inter-scholastic sports teams..the intra-murals were also a big hit!! I remember submarine day - the line up was forever! I remember the first trip to the library and how it seemed so overwhelming..until we were taught about the "cardex system"!Lots of memories - too many to name but I will always remember my first day at Galt-amongst the other 4000+ students and my last day of Galt..the sentimental journey! Both my children are students of Galt & although much has changed in the set up of the school..it is still Galt!I had some really great teachers - some of whom I have become great friends with in my adult years being in the same community. Not sure how many are still teaching but up until a few years ago..there were many still there!!
Orange 310, Miss Mildon, getting the chair pulled out from under me at the start or my very first homeroom period as a french kid in this huge, intimidating school! Talk about an ice breaker. It amazes me the transformation that occured between the time I began Level III and graduation. It makes me appreciate the incredible "density" of those years as my son is going through the same stage in his life. If we could squeeze in as much experience now as in one of those years, we would surely be overwhelmed! Thanks to ALL my teachers at Galt and may they be proud of their contributions.
